The MPA (Music Publishers Association?) has been threatening tab sites recently. They have apparently been having quite a bit of success since many of the major tab sites have closed their doors. Guitar Tab Blog is following the matter and contains some recent events and news. First music, then movies, now tabs. What’s next? Recipe sites?
As a young guitar student and a passionate musician I personally thank you for being a pioneer for websites that teach people like me how to play guitar. I am very happy to say that I have learnt guitar sole from your sites with the very inviting support of fellow guitarist on the net. Without your help I’m sure that I wouldn’t be the musician that I am today. Thank you so much, for letting people like me around the world learn the beauty of music and teaching us how to express ourselves through it. I know that there is currently an attempt by the music industry to shut down sites like yours and I’m very unhappy that they are that blinded by their greed. When you reach a point where the money matters more than the music then I fail to see the American dream when you can patent something as holy and as personal as music. How many bands have been inspired by classic guitarist like led zeppelin, AC/DC, pink Floyd and so many others? Alas when they’ve reached the point that even sharing music for the point of teaching others and letting them know the pleasure of hearing yourself play the latest top hits is somehow illegal and “communistic” (ultimate guitar.com) then that is truly (as don McLean said) “the day the music died”. Please know that you have my complete support, and that I hope you manage to pull through and beat these guys again like how the lyric sites did a few years back. Again thank you for teaching me, and thousands of others the beauty of music.
